Everybody knows Gudhi Padwa is a spring-time festival that marks the Traditional New Year for Marathi and Konkani Hindus. It is celebrated in and near Maharashtra and Goa on the first day of the Chaitra. Puran Poli is a popular Maharashtrian recipe made during Gudhi Padwa, Pola, Ganesh Chaturthi or any other festive occasion. As, In Maharashta there is Puran Poli. However, a similar kind of variation is made in South India, particularly in Karnataka with Coconut and Jaggery stuffing. The Traditional Puran Poli is made with lentil and jaggery stuffing which makes it similar to sweetened dal paratha... So, today we will make this Coconut Puran Poli. History Of Puran Poli...?
- Puran Poli is a popular Maharashtrian recipe made during Holi, Gudhi Padwa, Pola, Ganesh Chaturthi or any other festive occasion. As, In Maharashta there is Puran Poli. However, a similar kind of variation is made in South India, particularly in Karnataka with Coconut and Jaggery stuffing. The Traditional Puran Poli is made with lentil and jaggery stuffing which makes it similar to sweetened dal paratha...
- Karnataka and Andhra have their own variations. Some recipes use jaggery in place of sugar, and the spicing can be different. In South Indian this is a traditional and classical south indian dessert recipe made with coconut, jaggery and plain flour. Coconut Puran Poli is also known by differen names likle Kayi Holige, Naariyal Puran Poli, Kayi Obbattu, Coconut Poli...It's really very delicious, do try it once...
INGREDIENTS :
For The Dough :
- 2 cups All Purpose Flour
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 tbsp Turmeric Powder
- 1 tbsp Oil/Ghee
- Water as required
For The Filling :
- 1 Whole Fresh Grated Coconut
- 1 Cup Grated Jaggery
- 1 tbsp Cardamom Powder
- 1 tbsp Ghee/Oil
- Water

Procedure :
For The Dough :
- Take a bowl, Add All Purpose Flour, Salt, Turmeric Powder and ghee/oil. Mix well and form a crumb like mixture.
- Add water as required and knead a soft dough. Cover the dough and set aside for 30 mins or 1 hour.
- Add oil to the dough and knead a little till it's absorbed.
- You can also use whole wheat flour.
For The Filling :
- Heat up the water in pan/kadai, add Jaggery. Let it melts properly.
- After the Jaggery is dissolves, remove it and strain it. Keep the Jaggery water aside.
- Now in same pan heat up oil/ghee, add Grated Coconut and roast it for 3 mins.
- Add prepared Jaggery water and mix it well.
- Add Cardamom Powder and Ghee. mix well and cook until Jaggery water get's absorbed.
- Now divide the prepared dough into equal portions, and form small lemon sized balls.
- Now take banana leaf and keep the dough on it, now by using fingers spread the dough and add the prepared Coconut stuffing in the centre.
- Roll into a potli, remove the excess dough and again by usging fingers spread the Poli. You can also use rolling pin but South India traditional way to make it by using hands.
- Heat a tawa, add the prepared Puran Poli and roast on both sides, flip over and brush with ghee/oil, flip over and roast till brown spots appear.
- Here Our COCONUT PURAN POLI is ready.ЁЯШК

- Serve Hot...Serve with Aam Ras, Ghee or at as it is...
