Hey,Its Lockdown 5.0: Day 42. Gajar Ka Halwa ( गाजर का हलवा ), I think Everyone Like This Sweet Dish. We Mostly use this dish for Desert and It is One of Nutritious Sweet Dish in Indian Deserts. We can make it from Oil and Ghee Both but I will Suggest you to use Ghee. This Dish Tastes Way more Delicious After It has been kept in Freeze and Has been Cold Like Ice-Cream. But You can eat it without cooling it in Freeze.One Thing about This dish is You have to grate the Carrots, And I think it is very boring part in this dish. So At the end I will show you one easy way to grate carrots. Lets Gets Started....
Origin of Gajar ka Halwa..
- If we talk about the origin, the "halwa" is Arabic word which means Sweet and as this Dish cantains Carrots (गाजर) it is Named as Gajar ka Halwa (गाजर का हलवा ).
- This Dish Made during Mughals Period in India.And Much more similar to Punjabi Dish Halwa but there is not any clear origin known.
- This age old traditional recipe remained in Punjabi cookbooks for many years.
Ingrediants
- 2 cups Carrots Grated, किसा हुआ गाजर
- Pinch of Saffron ( Optional ), चुटकी भर केसर
- 2-3 Green Cardamom Powder crushed,इलायची पाउडर
- 3 cups Milk , दूध
- ¼ cups Oil / Ghee , तेल / घी
- 10-12 Cashew nuts, Chopped ,काजू
- 10-12 Almonds, बादाम
- ¾ Cups Sugar , चीनी
- Coconut Finely Chopped, किसा हुआ नारयल
- Pinch of Salt , चुटकी भर नमक
Step 1
- Heat Oil /Ghee in a kadai. Add saffron, cardamom, Coconut kiss , cashew nuts, almonds and saute till golden brown.
Step 4
- Now add sugar and salt and mix well. Cook for 4mins and switch off the flame. Serve hot or cold.
